About Us

Welcome: We’re glad you’ve joined us. Read on to discover who we are and what we do.

Where can we find you? In the white crenellated mansion on the south circular (Stanstead Road), on the left about a third of the way between Catford and Forest Hill.

So what’s it all about? Affectionally known as SENIORS its official name is Stanstead Lodge Senior Club Ltd. (formerly known as: Lewisham Elders Resource Centre Ltd.), a registered charity for people over 50 in Lewisham and South East London. We have extended our membership criteria to include all adults in our catchment area.  We’re housed in a large white Grade II listed  mansion, with spacious halls and rooms, and a massive enclosed garden at the rear.

What is our purpose? – Since our local authority grant is now less than a quarter of what it used to be, our challenge is to use our magnificent Grade II listed building to generate sufficient income to maintain it and pay our staff to keep it open.  We have been offering a wonderful supportive environment for older people in Lewisham and South East London to develop skills, exercise, socialise and generally prolong a healthy and active life since we opened as a Darby and Joan club in 1949.

What’s it like?  We have The Lodge Cafe open Monday to Friday, dispensing tasty local cooking popular with local mums and carers with young children as well as members.  We offer a variety of teas,  coffees and other beverages with cakes to die for along with healthy snacks and meals all freshly cooked on the premises.  The Cafe also gives access to our safe and spacious enclosed garden with terrace and play area.

The main building houses a large and bright sun lounge overlooking the garden, a theatre space with stage, meeting or training rooms, and a magnificent conservatory.  The centre’s facilities are all available for hire and out of core activity hours they make a splendid venue for large family or social gatherings.  Get your information on availability at reception.

And what goes on there? We’ve got a varied programme of activities to suit all tastes. The list so far is: Line dancing, Art History, French, Choir, Tai Chi, Art,  Zumba, Keep Fit, Book Club, Vista Reminiscence, Feeling the Noise (Blind and visually impaired band),Quiz, Yoga and Chair Yoga, Whist Drive, Pilates, Drama, Forget Me Nots (For people with Dementia) and Local History.

How much does it cost?
Full Annual Membership: £36
Age – 50 to 59                         £30
Age – 60+                                 £24

What else do you get for your membership fee? As well as reductions on the cost of weekly activities, and a 10% discount on food in the café, members can get reductions on the cost of trips and events. Plus access to the same with our Purple Alliance partner organisations.

Give an hour to Seniors. We encourage all individual members and the activity groups to help at Stanstead Lodge by giving even just an hour of your time. You can help by getting the building ready for events such as open days and fundraising events, running a stall and taking part in demonstrations of the activities we run. Ask at reception if you are interested in volunteering.
